Pharmaceutical Microbiology

Microbiology is the applied branch of microbiology. It involves the study of microorganisms involved in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals e.g. One process is to reduce the number of microorganisms in the environment, to exclude microorganisms and microbial by-products of exotoxins and endotoxins from water and other starting materials, and to ensure that the final product is clean. Other aspects of microbiology include the research and development of anti-infective agents, mutations in potential drugs, and the use of microorganisms to identify carcinogens. Manufacture of products such as insulin and human growth hormone.
