Industrial waste problems, especially those involving hazardous waste, are an ongoing problem. They have a high profile, and as such are reported regularly in the media. Examples of past mishaps are Love Canal, New York; Times Beach, Missouri, Italy. In our modern day world, with our use of plastics, cars, leather, and pesticides, it is now accepted that they have "side effects."
