Each radiation oncologist has specialized training in performing radiation treatment for people with cancer and those with definite noncancerous (benign) conditions. The doctors further specialize by concentrating their specific practices on treating different kinds of cancers, including complex and rare cancers. Radiation therapy works far differently. While Chemotherapy delivers drugs to the entire body, radiation aims to only target the definite area of the body where there are cancerous cells, and aims to reduce the amount of healthy cells that are affected throughout treatment. Radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that uses high-energy x-ray or extra particles to destroy cancer cells. A doctor who studies in giving radiation therapy to treat cancer is called a radiation oncologist.

Stereotactic radiosurgery
