Mental health/ Psychiatric Nursing

Psychiatric nursing or mental health nurses deals with mental health, and cares for people experiencing mental illnesses or distress. Examples: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, paranoia, and self-harm. Psychiatric mental health registered nurses work with individuals, families, groups, and communities, assessing of their mental health. The PMH nurse develops a nursing diagnosis and care, implements the nursing process, and evaluates its effectiveness. Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (PMH-APRNs) offer primary care services to the psychiatric-mental health patients.
